Blowing out 102 Celebrations at Greenwood
28.07.17With a total of 102 events hosted under the S*A*S*H banner at The Greenwood Hotel, we celebrate a total of two years within our North Sydney stable.
Now holding a special place within us,
We’ve gone through the sounds, videos and photos of the last two years and picked out some of the high lights.
Let’s take a ride through the times…★ All Day I Dream – Lee Burridge, Mathew Dekay, YokoO ★
When you’re asked to host one of the most prolific brands in the world, you hold back no punches. With a sound system to rival a small festival, several hundred meters of material, lights and a little extra love, The Greenwood became the perfect backdrop to host our dear old friend, Yokoo as well of two of the scenes most highly regarded artists. While technically not under the S*A*S*H banner, we believe the results speak for themselves and it was clear, it was time to make our return to the sunshine! The seed of S*A*S*H by Day was planted.
★ Phil Weeks and Joss Moog ★
In a day opened by two of Sydney’s most polished house selectors, Rabbit Taxi and Adam Stromstedt in the afternoon slot, Joss Moog took the reigns for what still stands as one of the best sets delivered through the Funktion One rig.In a masterclass performed with French flare, Phil Weeks delivered it home with what was without a doubt, a standout week in our short and humble history at the North Sydney stable.
More from this bad boy can be found here…
★ S*A*S*H Birthday’s ★
Given that birthdays are a little more special and they only come around once a year, it feels fitting to celebrate in a slightly larger fashion.. or EXCESSIVELY, if you would.
By the soundtracks of Mark Henning and Kevin Griffiths The ‘ol Church has hosted two of our 6 S*A*S*H’s birthdays, and done so in style!

★ Molly at Day ★
As resident at Paris’ legendary Rex Club, Molly has established herself as one of the city’s brightest talents, combining passion, integrity and talent to launch a successful DJ career and producing.
She’s been at the very top of our wish list for some time and most definitely worth the wait!

★ Opening Weekend ★
We wouldn’t have gotten to two years without starting somewhere. At the Hands of one of UK’s don’s, Eddie Richards and Belgium house legend, Red D. From the very first weekend, we joined in the sunshine and it was clear – this was something we must continue.Since then we’ve hosted decorated international dignitaries, local heroes, fresh faces and a crowd spanning every corner of the globe.
★ Subsonic Music Festival Launch ’17 ★
With every changing of the calendar the countdowns begin till the first weekend of December – Subsonic Music Festival.Renowned globally for the wonder, warmth a color that makes Subsonic one of the most special events in Australia, the Greenwood had been given the whole hog Riverwood Downs treatment in classic Subsonic styling.
Musically reflecting what the festival is about, it spanned reggae, house, techno, drum and bass, hip hop and all the shades and nuances in between.
While the visual feast had been paired with some of the very finest cream of the musical crop – John Dimas, Molly and Hanfry Martinez.

★ Andrey Pushkarev ★
Off the back of his first Australian tour, the Russian brought his swooning and moody music out of the stark cold of Europe and into the sundrenched heat of Australia. In a world where the lines between Dj and producers have bee blurred and often run hand in hand, the Russian has focused solely on continuing to hone his sound as a Dj.

★ S*A*S*H NYE ★
… This one hasn’t technically happened yet – but it seems as though New Years Eve falls on a Sunday this year.
To everyone at the venue; the legendary security, the bar tenders, managers and glassies – thank you.
To our sound techs who rain hail or shine throw around the rig and bust their chops weekly – thank you.
To our photographer – Guil who relentlessly is pushing himself to capture the moments we share – thank you.
To our impeccable staff who provide the warmth, soul and dedication every single Sunday – thank you.
To the world class locals who prove the quality and quantity of variety and Australia’s talent – thank you.
To all the international guests we’ve hosted who have shared their music and limitless joy – thank you.
Finally, those who none of this would be possible without, those who come every week, provide the energy and shuffling feet, the crowd –THANK YOU!

A Reason to Froth..
28.10.16
Robbie, AKA, R.L AKA, #1Frother AKA Smiling Assassin, call what you wish, it really is a name that has become synonymous with one thing; quality house music.
Across every event, venue and festival worth it’s salt, Robbie’s two decade career has seen him become one of the scene’s cornerstones for all the right reasons. We have given him the reigns of The Greenwood ahead of this Sunday’s S.A.S.H by Day. He’ll be hosting an afternoon under the spring sun at the hands of; yung gun – Colo Saravia, ‘Big-Dumb’ – Jeff Barrass, ‘Smooth-Operator’ – Garth Linton, ‘Bring-the-Partee’ – Ben Nott and of course, the man himself.
Ahead of that, we took 5 with and tackled some big issues.. Ibis birds, records and Sharon.
Would you rather:
Never surf or never dj again?
Wow that’s tuff … um .. um .. I honestly don’t know and can’t make that decision. It’s like asking would you rather loose you sight or your hearing …Be able to fly or be invisible?
Fly .. I’d spend most of my time in the air for sure!Dildos for legs or Doritos for fingers?
Do the Doritos grow back? If so Doritos. What would your hip hop Dj name be?
Robbie Scratch n SniffWhich global venues / parties you haven’t played yet would you still love to cross off your list?
There’s a few no doubt but first to come to mind is Blkmarket in NY. I love NY!Quick response – what’s the first thing that comes to mind:
– Ibis birds: aren’t they the birds that hang around bins and pick thru our mess? Good on them I say.
– Spiders: Smart creepy little fuckers.
– Sync button: Of course there is …
– Mike Baird: Public enemyWhat’s your specialty dish? What’s the secret to making it
Can’t cook, won’t cook.Where did Sharon come from?
I started calling Garth Sharon a while ago … for absolutely no reason at all. There’s a bunch of us that seem to never call each other by our real names … it’s weird but very funny. Matt Weir got hold of Sharon and really ran with it. Now everyone is called Sharon.A record that never leaves your bag?
Gat Decor – Passion is a tune that has travelled with me thru the years. Still makes a very positive impact on the dancefloor. In fact, I’ll play it forever! Lots of sentimental value with this record for me – was actually one of the first I bought and learnt to mix with on the turnies.Describe your life with one song title?
Man I’m a vinyl DJ .. I only know songs by cover artwork. What’s your spirit animal?
TortoiseIf you could have dinner with one person, dead or alive – who would it be? Why?
Prince. He is one of my hero’s!
Non fictional character – Rocky Balboa. I reckon he could teach me a thing or 2 about life. What’s the last picture you took on your phone?
MyselfWho inspires you?
Family, friends and anyone that is out there giving it a red hot go!If you could play b2b with one dj – dead or alive – who would it be?
Danny HowellsJoin us in the wonderful communion under the banner music as the sun sets on Sydney for another lashing among the halls of The Greenwood Hotel.

Innner West
23.03.16*heavy breathing*
While the Inner West Reggae Disco Machine may be new to many people in the house world, the infamous rig in the reggae and dub world is a monster that cannot be contained.
“The Inner West Reggae Disco Machine is more than just a set of speakers” Gonzo notes. “Its a crew, it has its selectors, box builder, sound boy, MC’s and of course the speakers themselves”. Stevie Dub, Rik, Sonic and Gonz have pieced bit by bit over the years to grow what is quite literally a work of art tailored to their sound. Comprised of smaller pies the system can be split into sections or run as a single wall of punch.
Nestled in Erskineville, The Hive bar hosted a reggae dance called ‘Rhythm Shower’. Stevie (the box builder and self proclaimed sound nerd) brought a hugely overpowered speaker that he had built to the bar. The dance gained love and saw the intimate bar up to twice the legal capacity.
Basically, it went nuts! They joked about building a massive wall of speakers. The joke eventually became reality a year later and the Inner West Reggae Disco Machine was born.
Armed with dubplates from local and international talent,(dubplates are one off recordings that are only ever played on our rig) the Inner West Reggae Disco Crew of Stevie Dub, Rik, Sonik and Gonz) aim to give you Reggae across the board.
Holding court in The Maze, the Inner West crew will be bringing in part of the system to help blow out a couple of candles!

Horsin’ Around 022: Rainer
07.01.16The world has jazz to thank for much of musics growth to this point. Stirring images of men in leather caps blowing down trumpets and saxophones in smokey bars, Jazz would eventually lead to the birth of funk, soul, disco and in turn – house. And while many cite jazz a primary influence, few manage to infuse it as well as well as he does.
In a glorious merger of dubby beats and forward thinking melodic techno glittered with the colours of jazz has secured him releases on quality over quantity labels; Desolate, Half Baked Records and Serialism Records.
‘It is all about melting the organic with the electronic, and making a good smooth combination that when it is mixed with good drum rhythms you can allow people to drift away and travel with the sound.’
This seductive minimal groove with a twist secured him residency at one of the UK’s institutions – Half Baked. A staple part of every electronic music lover’s diary, Sunday afternoon partying has become as essential as Saturday night. Half Baked hold their parties in spaces exclusive to them, taking what might otherwise be just another warehouse or open space and adding the Half Baked touch to their venues; always with raw industrial style, causing an atmosphere of a less-than-legal venue.
Most recently, locking in a residency at Barcelona’s ‘LOUD‘on Wednesday nights. Working with such key brands as Cocoon, Tresor, Ar:pa:ir, Circoloco and countless other of the worlds most influential brands, LOUD has held a weekly residency at the intimate ‘Macarena Club‘ in Barca’s Gothic District.
Balancing his time between Barcelona and the mecca that is Berlin, Rainer’s tour dates include club luminaries; Watergate, Renate, Ritter Butzke, KaterHolzig & Fusion Festival. Filling his passport with boarding passes to Russia, US, Mexico, Thailand and most recently, Australia.
Out on tour with Alexkidd’s recently birthed touring agency – 510K. The agency is also flying the flag for forward thinking heavyweight artists like; Archie Hamilton, Bella Sarris, Dasha Redkina and Randall M each encompassing the ideology of understated emotive techno.
S.A.S.H in conjunction with 510K Agency will be hosting the gent this Sunday for a taste of something unique, different and pioneering artist amongst the hallowed walls of The Terrace for S.A.S.H by Night.
